Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school is a Title I school and we struggle with low reading scores. The majority of my 8th-grade students read at a 4th- or 5th-grade reading level. My goal this year is to not only increase their reading level but also make reading enjoyable and fun!

This year, I start class with 10 minutes of independent reading with a book of their choice.

I already created the reading nook by moving some bookshelves now it just needs to be cozy and inviting with the requested bean bag chairs and rug!

Additionally, we read a few excepts from Stephen King as part of our StudySync curriculum and the kids loved it! I am trying to fill my class library with books they are excited about.
