Your generous donation is making it possible for students to engage in an authentic Ethnic Studies project that is both academically rigorous and deeply meaningful.\r\n\r\nStudents will begin this project by reading \"Unwritten: Oral Histories of Ventura County,\" a text created by community members in partnership with our local history and art museum. Through these narratives, students will become aware of the unique and often unheard stories of Ventura County's communities while exploring themes of resilience, family, home, traditional knowledge, and civic engagement. Engaging with \"Unwritten\" helps students build empathy, broaden their perspectives, and understand how individual stories contribute to our collective history.\r\n\r\nBuilding on this foundation, students will learn the process of conducting oral histories from scholars and practitioners in the field. They will study ethical interviewing practices, research local history, and develop the skills needed to listen carefully and honor the lived experiences of others. Students will then have the opportunity to choose a local community member to interview, positioning community voices as essential sources of knowledge and history.\r\n\r\nMany students will have the opportunity to apply this work toward earning the California State Seal of Civic Engagement, reinforcing the project's real-world relevance and impact. Importantly, students may conduct their interviews in their preferred language, honoring linguistic diversity and affirming multilingualism as an asset in our community.\r\n\r\nAs part of this project, we are also working to create a website where these oral histories will be compiled, preserved, and shared—ensuring that these community stories are accessible to future generations of scholars, students, and oral historians.\r\n\r\nTransformational change can happen when we listen to each other's stories. They have also organized their AVID binders, class novels, and resource books. \r\n\r\nWe're currently using the shelves to support our independent reading program and AVID organization system. Each shelf now has labeled sections for student binders, resource guides, and a growing collection of novels that encourage our students to read more. Having everything accessible and neatly displayed has created a more inviting and productive learning space.\r\n\r\nNext, our students are working on a book recommendation project where they'll create personalized \"shelf talkers\" — little cards that share why they loved a certain book and who they'd recommend it to. I've created numerous presentations that I am able to display in the classroom. I have also been able to move around the classroom with more ease, since the ipad is more compact than a laptop. Lastly, I have also used Goodnotes to create colorful posters for my students.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for the support.
