I teach a great class of 2nd graders at a high needs urban school in Washington state.

My students are becoming independent readers and they are so eager to read and learn about so many things-on their own! As a new teacher I do not have very many books and my classroom library is especially lacking when it comes to science books. My students ask for books or about topics that I don't know about and I have nothing to give them to help them learn about it on their own. Furthermore, most of the books in our school library are geared for older students and are too difficult for my students to read and understand.

In order to better serve my students and to keep them interested in reading I need more science books. Having a set of science books on a variety of topics, that are written for younger readers, would allow my students to read and find out about things they are curious about. These books would also keep many of my students, who get tired of or don't care for fiction books, interested and excited about reading, as they would be able to read about topics that are of interest to them.

Your help in purchasing a set of science books for my classroom will make it possible for my students to learn about a variety of topics and explore concepts that are interesting and cool to them and will keep them interested and excited about reading!
