I taught 24 second grade students this year, and will take this class to third grade next year in an effort to increase their academic success. I teach in a mid-sized neighborhood school that consists of low to middle-income students. In my efforts to increase academic success in my students for the remainder of this year and into the 2006-2007 school year, I have realized that my students need materials that will help them stay actively engaged in their learning. I would like for my students to have a variety of learning games that will help them practice the skills that we have been learning in class. These games are high-interest and very motivating. They reinforce money and fractions. While several students are actively engaged in these fun games, I will be able to pull small groups of students who need more help on a particular skill. The resources that I want for my students are called Classroom Math Card Games. They consist of a set of 2 games that build math skills that we are currently working on and will continue to learn more about next year. I also need the overhead set that will allow me to teach the games to the class, and/or practice the skills in that game as a whole group together. I feel that if my students have access to these learning games, I can make learning more fun and exciting. If my students are having fun at school each day, they will want to come back. If I can give my students a solid foundation in math skills, then they will encounter fewer problems later in school and be more likely to succeed. I really think that these games will benefit my students tremendously.
