My students need sports equipment to keep them physically fit and active during physical education!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach Physical Education to 400 students in grades 2nd through 5th. My school is located in Little Haiti. Little Haiti is home to many Haitian immigrants and many residents from the rest of the Caribbean. To many people, it is considered a small-impoverished city, but to me, it is rich in culture! From the delicious food to the beautiful murals surrounding the streets Little Haiti is our home.
My students are talented, full of energy, and of course they love P.E.
The teachers are eager to bring their students to the hardcourt and the students are excited to get started! As a coach to a large number of students, I make it my duty to keep them actively engaged in sports, physical fitness, and competitions. Due to limited equipment and the effects of Hurricane Irma, fulfilling this requirement has been a challenge but not impossible. With your help, my students will continue to develop lifelong healthy habits and participate in physical fitness to ensure they reach their greatest potential toward building a healthier self!
Today's youth are not physically active because they enjoy playing video games more than playing outside. In my P.E. class this is not the case! Everyday my students are up and moving in some way. From warm-up's to competitive races, our goal is to be physically fit by pushing and motivating each other along the way. To make sure we reach this goal we are in need of equipment to maintain our interest.
This is why I am asking for items such as footballs, basketballs, and hula hoops for my students to use while they are actively moving during our hour block in P.E.
Equipment is limited and my students and I have to be creative with competitions we partake in. Usually, we have a basketball competitions or races, but my goal is to expose them to new equipment to keep excited and ready for unexpected challenges. With your assistance, physical education can become more rewarding because my students will be using equipment they have never been exposed to, learning new skills in different sports, and maintaining their physical fitness. Please help provide us with parachutes, safety cones, basketballs, footballs, bean bags, and mesh bags so we can have a physically fit and encouraging year. These materials were needed previously, but even more so now because of Hurricane Irma.
