Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We work hard every day at our bilingual neighborhood school! We engage in learning, thinking, questioning, community-building, and most importantly - finding a way to solve any problem or challenge that we face! We begin with a brief lesson as a community and then break into individual or collaborative work time where I support my students in growing as problem-solvers.

My students need wobbly stools, comfy seating options, and wiggle chairs to provide our classroom with spaces for students who NEED MOVEMENT during our long school day.

8 hours sitting in a desk at school is a long time for a 9 year old! Being able to get some of their wiggles out or sit in a new type of chair during the day helps my students better focus on all of the important math, science, and literacy skills we learn in 4th grade! My students are better able to engage in this work when they feel more comfortable, safe, and productive. Wiggle seats and stools are proven to reduce anxiety, improve health and wellness, and increase focus in students. With these seating options, my classroom can provide students with opportunities for movement and be more responsive to the needs of my most hyperactive students, who need a an appropriate outlet within the learning environment to release their extra energy to achieve at their full potential.

Your help will provide students with the kind of kind of classroom I know we all would have enjoyed: a classroom where kids have a choice in where they work best and have the tools to help them do their best learning. Your donation will provide students with access to a classroom where students have choice, movement and the ability to fully engage in developing their identities as powerful mathematicians, scientists, and lifelong learners!
