Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative and energetic. They come into the classroom every day, with big smiles on their faces, ready to learn and play! I start each day with 25 kids telling me, "Good Morning!" or "Hi Miss!"My students are also incredibly kind to one another. In our class, we make big efforts to make each person feel special and cared for!
I am very happy to teach my amazing students at a community school in South Central Los Angeles.
Our school offers several resources to students and their families. Many of the students in my classroom come from low-income households and I would love to provide them with amazing classroom experiences!
My Project
As I start my second year of teaching, I want to use flexible seating in my classroom. Last year, I noticed that many of my students had a lot of trouble sitting still in a traditional chair and desk. I know that giving my students varied choices regarding where and what to sit on will benefit them as we move into the new school year. Students will practice working at several different seats and will be able to better focus on their work if they are offered comfortable choices. I would like to offer them several comfortable choices this school year and support them to explore which one works best for them. My principal is helping me by getting circle tables for my classroom, but I need help to get some seat choices!
My students and I talk a lot about how every scholar is different, how we need different tools to learn, and I know that flexible seating will give each student an important tool for their academic success!
I want to start the school year by working with my students so that we can explore how to best to use each seat. We will go over how students with a lot of energy can use balance ball chairs to get some of their wiggles out with support. We will talk about how balancing on a free standing balance ball can help us stay focused. Some students like to be closer to the floor and we will talk about using floor cushions to do this.
I love seeing how much my students learn about making the right choices for themselves and am very excited to start my flexible-seating-classroom journey! Thank you for your help along the way!
