Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at an inner-city elementary school where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Coming from poverty, many of my students lack essential money skills and struggle academically. Engaging, interactive, and fun activities will help my students learn valuable skills such as bills and coins recognition, counting, adding and subtracting, problem-solving skills and cooperative play.
Help me give my students opportunities to learn math while having lots of fun!
Many of my students struggle to focus on their work. However, their focus improves when they are actively engaged in learning and can manipulate things with their hands. I love my students and want to provide them with hands-on materials so they can succeed in the classroom and beyond.
Thanks for your consideration!
My Project
I teach 2nd grade math in an after-school tutoring program. By the end of the day, it is often challenging to engage young learners.
These activities and hands-on materials would grab students' attention and promote learning!
LCD Writing Tablet: These are such cool alternatives to whiteboards and dry erase markers or paper and pencils! Students use a stylus to write on the LCD panel which displays answers in rainbow colors. A simple push of the button erases their answer. Students love these!
Money Activity Set: This set can be used to teach money skills in an endless variety of ways! Coin and bill recognition, adding, subtracting, making different money combinations, completing math puzzles, and so much more!
Clumsy Thief Game: A hilarious, award-winning game that develops adding and subtracting to 20 and cooperative play.
Pattern Blocks Activity Cards: Blocks are wonderful at teaching spatial reasoning, shape identification, graphing, and perseverance in solving problems. Students love activities with pattern blocks!
Bean Bags and Rings: There are so many ways to use bean bags and rings to support learning! One way that I would use them is to put laminated pretend money inside the rings to create a game where students would throw bean bags to land in the rings to get the highest money total.
Money Student Packet: Realistic pretend coins and bills which could be used in a variety of ways to teach financial literacy.
