Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all so special in their own unique ways. While majority of them face the many challenges of coming from an underprivileged home and several are homeless, they certainly make the most of their lives while at school. My students love to find fun and silly ways to learn new things. More than 50% of the students I work with are bilingual, speaking both Spanish and English. Our school serves free breakfast to the students every morning before school begins, and nearly 95% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.

My Project

As the speech therapist at our school, I plan to model use of the EET in classrooms so that teachers can adopt the practice during structured writing times. My students need access to the EETCHY mnemonic device including the Expanding Expression Tool Kit, EET Steppers, Show and Share bags, and fun stickers in order to build on expressive language.

The Expanding Expression Tool (EET) kits will enhance my students' abilities to express their ideas in a more concrete, sequential way.

Students will learn to add additional information they may not have otherwise come up with on their own. Students will learn to categorize information into various groups and determine what information is pertinent to include so that a reader understands. The kit will serve as a great tool for students to refer to in the classroom when they are "stuck."
