My Students

Our theme this year is "We may all be different, but in this class we swim together!" We work hard to find successes as a group and also work through our areas of growth. I want every student to find success in reading and an updated listening center will help provide that for all learners.

My students are kind and caring.

They came to 2nd grade with a variety of skills and at a variety of levels, ranging from Kindergarten to 4th grade. Helping students find success in something everyday is my goal. Our school has about 50% free and reduced lunch. This also means that many families are living day to day. Many don't have access to Internet, appropriate clothing, reliable transportation, and books to read at home. Understandably these issues spill over into the classroom. Education is not just about teaching students academics, we are here to learn how to be community members, a positive role model, a scholar, and a problem solver. My students work hard each day and strive to be a better people.

My Project

I am fortunate enough to have 3 iPads in my room but I am not able to use them how I envision. There are many wonderful apps for students to listen to books but without headphones it is nearly impossible. For my students that don't have books at home or someone to read to them daily, I want them on the iPads having books read to them and working through appropriate literacy activities. I want to them to fall in love with characters and travel all over the world through literature. Our new reading curriculum is all online so students will also be able to listen to books from book group, preview book group books and access old favorites as them move onto different levels. This will hugely improve my students reading skills and make the limited technology in my classroom go a lot farther. Students will be able to have good fit books read to them, work on technology skills, and provide students with a zest for reading.

The addition of headphones and splitters will open up the world of books and literature for my students.

Students who do not have access to books at home or who do not have someone to read to them at home will now have that opportunity here at school. I'm really looking forward to providing this gift for all my students!
