Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At I.S.303, we believe that every child deserves a quality education, regardless of where he or she grows up. I work in the poorest Congressional district in the country, and our school's budget is not enough to meet the needs of our students.

My students are determined, enthusiastic, compassionate, and super smart - they just need your help to make sure they get the kind of education they deserve.

As middle school students, they are working hard to get into the best high schools in New York City. We, their teachers, are working hard to make sure they have all the tools they need to get there.

My Project

Our students need encouragement to form a positive relationship with reading. We do not have access to a library at our school and many of the students have run out of interesting books to read.

By getting series of books, students have more buy in to the reading process and can continue the author's journey through multiple books.

We already have a dedicated period every day to independent reading. Every day students spend twenty five minutes reading independently. They also have to fill out journals about their reading. After five months of picking from our classroom library, students have run out of options! Now we just need a larger library to keep our students engaged.
