Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Math Interventionist and I teach a wonderful group of students at a Title I school. Over 70% of the students are Hispanic and are learning the English language. Our elementary school has the highest number of Multilingual Learners in the state of South Carolina!
My students are eager to learn and I want them to have the tools to help that happen!
Due to the language barrier and other socioeconomic factors, my students are not currently working on their grade level. In fact, many of them are two or more grade levels behind their peers. They do not have the necessary prior knowledge or materials at home and have fallen behind in mathematics. Many of them are not enthusiastic about learning math because it is difficult for them. It is hard for them to learn material on their grade level because they lack number sense and the basic skills.
The materials that have been selected for this project would enable me to provide my students with learning activities that are fun! The Magnetic Bug Toss and Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will provide resources that my students will love. I can use these activities to promote fact fluency while having fun. The Sensible Math Counting and Cardinality Collection would be an awesome resource to help reinforce the Number Sense skills that I am teaching in my groups. The various pens/markers would be great for the students to use while completing differentiated math activities.
