Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
When children are using these materials in natural ways, they are learning differently than they are when they are only listening or watching a lesson.
These kinds of materials provide students with more profound, personal understanding of math concepts.
My Project
Math manipulatives make learning math interesting and enjoyable.Give students the choice of working on a page of problems or solving a problem with colorful and interestingly shaped blocks. Foam rings, counters, dough mats intrigue and motivate while helping students learn. As a teacher I appreciate how useful they are in helping me teach different math concepts. Worksheets and other activities are meaningful for my students, but I’ve seen how colors and textures as in addition machines, train puzzles, pattern blocks make them feel inspire to focus on their tasks. Many items can be used in multiple ways. I enjoy watching children have “lightbulb” moments when they finally understand an idea thanks to the tools they are using. I am ecstatic when children are exploring with manipulatives, and they discover something new, a pattern or a way to use.
