My Students

My students are very creative and amazing artists, because they have to freedom to explore what interests them. We are an IB school, so projects are student-led, as we encourage students to be inquirers and risk-takers. Our art program collaborates with the other teachers in the school for art projects and students create such amazing art. Many times, they go beyond the requirements of the assignments to draw, paint, and/or color beautiful pieces of art. My students range from kindergarten to 5th grade.

Students will enjoy exploring how real ink works in print-making.

So we will have a unit on print-making this year. There are many artists who used print-making, including Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. Whether it is a modern artist or a class artist, the children should understand this important artistic concept.

My Project

One IB unit will be on Spain. Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso are both artists from Spain and they both painted and were also print-makers. Picasso was a big influence on Miró. Students will learn about Spain, Miró, and Picasso but also about the different processes of printmaking. We will use ink and brayers to create designs to print.

Students will learn the actual process of print-making with real ink.

They were able to experiment with this last year but with paint, which is not the same. They loved this unit and will be so excited to experience it with real ink, which has a different consistency than tempera paint.
