Help me give my students hands on tools to investigate and apply projectile motion concepts. The stomp rockets will be used as an open-ended competition between lab groups to see who can apply projectile motion concepts best.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
The goal of this project is to expand access in an urban school environment to college-level science topics. To accomplish this, I've created a physics laboratory course that accesses the same curriculum as 4-year instituitons for introductory physics. Our students will perform inquiry experiments across the mechanics topics which will include having students formulate the key principles of projectile motion including the relationship between horizontal and vertical motion of a projectile.
Our students are still high school age and I want to incorporate the fun aspects of learning with these inquiry activities.
Using the stomp rockets students will apply their knoweledge of projectile motion to design a rocket that will achieve the greatest range. A classroom award - in addition to class bragging rights - will be presented to the winning lab group to wrap up this topic.
