Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th grade Dual Immersion class is made up of students full of energy and enthusiasm for learning. We are part of a Title I K-5 School. Although it is a class with advanced students, many of them have started this year with difficulties remembering basic math facts, which makes it difficult for them to work with the new concepts they are learning.

My Project

In a Dual Immersion class, teachers need to be creative to form spaces where students can practice concepts that are difficult for them to learn. “Fun Fridays” are crucial for my class, during that time I can create that space and focus on small groups to help students who have been behind in their work during the week for different reasons.

I would love to incorporate Montessori materials so that every Friday my students could have the opportunity to practice math, independently and effectively.

With the Decanomial Bead Box, teachers can create infinite lessons for visual learners.

I faithfully believe in the effectiveness of Montessori materials. Through them, standard based lessons can be created as “games”. As they play, students practice math facts and learn new concepts that will not only be useful to them in a practical way at school, but will also nurture their love of learning.

The difficult times due to COVID 19 have caused many children to lose their enthusiasm for learning, which is why I have made it my mission to show my students that math can be fun.
