Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Children yearn to learn and they can do so while playing. Our students will take a different outlook in learning while using games, music, and magnetic boards and letter manipulatives to enforce their concept skills. They will see learning as FUN!

My class is made up of Latinos, 12 boys and 10 girls.

These children are of low-income families in which several live in converted garages and do not have yards to play. These students are so eager to learn and love to play! They love to listen to stories, choral read with adults, and partner read with each other. I want to give them that opportunity to play and learn simultaneously at school.

My Project

Most of my students enjoy reading, five are fluent readers, four are beginning readers and 12 are emergent readers. Because Spanish is the primary language spoken in the majority of their homes, my students lack role models for fluent English. Through the use of Sing-A-Long Cds during Independent Work Time (IWT), it will provide them the opportunity to access spoken literature and learn to read and spell using the alphabetic magnetic letters and magnetic boards. I will be able to enrich classroom activities by conducting spelling bees, jeopardy games, and readiness activities by using the Wireless Eggspert. The Clip-A-Zip Kit, pocket pal, and pocket chart are essential tools to keep these items organized so the students can efficiently access materials quickly during IWT.
