Let's Get Writing!

My students need supplies for structured collaborative paragraph writing in class. The easel pads will be used to edit and showcase our Rhetorical Precis on the walls of our room!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a vibrant and engaging group of 8th graders, intent on setting the world straight. We are readers, writers, speakers and critical thinkers. Our school is over 40% Socio Economically disadvantaged with over 50% of our students enrolled in the free or reduced lunch program.

In October our community was hit by the devastating fires that swept across Santa Rosa.

In the face of such devastation, our students shouldered the burden and demonstrated their resiliency and above all their desire to continue learning. While our school was closed for three weeks, teachers, students and their families evacuated and sought shelter amid the flames. Many of our staff and students lost everything in the fires. But above all and in spite of this terrifying destruction, our campus remains a kind, caring and generous one. Our students stand up for what is right and continue to support our community with donations and drives.

My Project

For some students writing is a chore, but in our classroom, we are making essay writing engaging and collaborative. Collaborative writing makes it less so. With these supplies we can conduct critical writing groups, with a focus on academic summary. We will use these supplies to work with each other, to edit our writing and show case the amazing writing talent in room 40!

We will make rhetorical writing fun with structured collaborative activities designed to get students writing academically.

The Post it Easel Pads will allow our students to collaborative write and edit paragraphs. Due to their size, we will easily be able to display student writing around the classroom. The markers, pencils, erasers and sharpeners will help us sharpen our minds as we go through the writing process. As our students grow into more mature readers and writers, the quality of their writing will improve as well. I would like to display these collaborative critical writing pieces on our wall to celebrate the writing talent in our classroom.
