My students need to have a place to read comfortably. By adding a large rug and several small rugs the students will have a place to read together or separate.

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Good buildings come from good people, and all problems are solved by good design." Stephen Gardiner
The building is strong, but the design is antiquated so, therefore it is up to me as the teacher to create a AWESOME classroom reading area!.
My students are part of a new initiative at our school.
We have always had inclusion, but this year we are following a different model. I will be having three classes of inclusion and a co teacher all day. Our school is in a high poverty area and most of the children partake in the free or reduced lunch program. They need to feel comfortable in their classroom, because it truly is a second home!!
My Project
Yes they are middle school students, but they still love to sit on the floor. The floor is not an option right now. But by bringing in a rug we can utilize the floor as another work space. It can be used for group work as well a individual reading time. Students may be called to the rug to hear a read aloud or have small group instruction. Then when we have quiet reading time they can take the squares and move to a place to sit by themselves.
Our building is so old and they floors are original hardwood.
There is no way I could ask them to sit on the floor right now. The reading area will all me to have a safe and comfortable place for the students to read and allow for another instructional area in the room.
