This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are energetic, fun-loving, eager second graders who look forward to coming to school every day. My students face many challenges such as disabilities, lack of supplies, and language barriers because their native tongue is not English, but despite these challenges, they are eager and ready to learn.
Every day, I strive to meet their various needs in any way that I can.
I try to create an engaging and peaceful work environment so their minds can soar! By making sure they have what they need to be academically successful, safe, healthy, and secure, I am helping them to be as productive as possible.
My students live in a low-income, inner-city neighborhood and they have struggles at home. It is my job to make sure they are able to accomplish what they wish to in school. One of my goals, as a teacher, is to provide things that my children are lacking and to create a positive learning environment. My students love to experience new things and visit new places such as the many field trips that I take them on. I also try to keep their bellies full and their minds open to learning new things.
My Project
In my classroom I am lucky enough to get extra support with an interventionalist teacher that comes in daily to meet with small groups. In this project I am asking for a kidney table that she can use to help to work better with her small groups. What I love about this table is that it is kidney shaped so that there is room for the teacher to sit in the middle and have better access to the students.
I believe that this table would be beneficial in helping her to work with students better by being in closer proximity to them. She will be able to see if they are struggling and help better.
This table can also be adjusted so that it is a better fit for my students. Right now we have two smaller tables put together but are very low.
My students will also be able to sit at the table and do their independent work such as their computer interventions, their writing assignments, and other work.
