Our students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions! They absolutely love books and reading. They are so excited to be back at school to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are an inspiration!
I love their resilience and desire to learn.
My job is to provide them with opportunities to play, discover, and learn together so that they might one day become scientists, mathematicians, teachers, and change makers.
Our school is a Title I school with a diverse student population. Several students are English language learners. Each child comes hopeful and open to the possibilities. The methods and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. Just like the books they need. I work hard to try and match books to each reader. Books that they will be eager to read.
My Project
Our first graders would like to participate in the 2022 Mock Caldecott awards. We will read, evaluate, and discuss beautiful picture books that have been published this year.
We will then evaluate each picture book using the criteria below:
1. Excellence of execution in the artistic technique employed;
2. Excellence of pictorial interpretation of story, theme, or concept;
3. Appropriateness of style of illustration to the story, theme or concept;
4. Delineation of plot, theme, characters, setting, mood or information through the pictures;
5. Excellence of presentation in recognition of a child audience.
After reading all of the books we will vote as to which one we think should win and then watch the real award ceremony to see which book is picked for the official medal.
All of the books will be added to our class library for us to continue to love and share throughout the year.
