Let's Get Physical!

Help me give my students a chance to participate in physical activities. This kit includes so many different options for each of my students. My students really enjoy throwing the balls.

My Students

My students are all nonverbal but have the communication skills through facial expressions. They love to be active and participate in a variety of activities throughout each day. Each of them has something to give to others. They just do it in a different way than the rest of us. I have some students who require wheelchairs, some who require a one on one person to assist throughout the entire day, some who are capable of being independent through most of the day, some who need feeding and toileting assistance and others who can do it on their own. It is a melting pot of abilities in my classroom.

We are all more alike than we are different.

My students love pizza, hamburgers, fries. They also love to socialize with their friends in and out of the classroom. These few simple things make them just like the rest of us. But, they sometimes have difficulty in expressing their likes and dislikes and wants and needs.

My Project

This kit will allow my students to participate in physical activities at different times than just at PE. We have an outside courtyard area that we can utilize with our balls and such in an academic activity but add the element of physical activity. By giving the students extra opportunities to participate in physical activity will reduce meltdowns in the classroom.

It will also give them an opportunity to leave the classroom for another period than just to PE.

This will also help prepare them for Special Olympics activities. Because of various disabilities, my students struggle with physical activity.

This kit will give them that extra boost of confidence in physical skills that each of them needs. As they get older, and recess is not an option, it is a way to incorporate the skills of throwing, catching, kicking, and hitting balls.
