Help me give my students tools to target their executive function difficulties specifically with time management and organization, sentence building, reading comprehension and writing, protect materials for reuse, and lastly snacks as an incentive and possible reward.
My students are truly special. Most of my students are creative and athletic, and it is wonderful to see them in their element, whether it be through art or sports. As an SLP, I get to work with many students in the classroom as well as in the speech office. Many times, students become overwhelmed because they don't have the simple tools to help them with challenges. A simple tool such as highlighter tape will allow them not to lose their place in the text, but also locate vocabulary, context clues, recognize topic sentences with details both in the text as well as paragraphs and essays they may write. The time timer keeps them on track, and helps them understand time management. In our school, students have triggers. By laminating material, it will be protected from being destroyed. I plan to use all these tools regularly. The snacks add an incentive for increased effort and completed tasks.
