Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 24 students in my class. My students are in a Montessori class in grades 1 -3. The students are between the ages of 5-8. Yonkers Public School District is the fourth largest school district in New York State, located in the lower Hudson Valley, immediately north of New York City. The student population is 17% Students with Disabilities, 13% Limited English Proficiency, 59% Hispanic, 18% Black, 16% White, 6% Asian/Pacific Islander, 1% Multi-Racial, 79% Free and Reduced Lunch.
My Project
Using these chair storage sacks will help my students declutter their workspace. My students use tables, not traditional desks that have a storage area. These sacks that are placed on the back of their chair will help them organize their workspace and not worry about their materials falling off of their table or misplacing them.
Since the return to school during the pandemic, the students no longer use the classroom community supply containers.
Therefore, each student must use their own supplies which occupy an enormous amount of their workspace. If each student had a seat storage sack they would be able to store their supplies and free up their workspace.
