This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Are tidy classrooms conducive to learning? There is debate, no doubt, but one thing I have observed over the years is that when things get too disorganized, it can be a distraction to the lessons at hand.

My students love to help keep the classroom organized.

They always step up to the challenge of taking ownership of the space and making decisions about systems to keep the classroom running efficiently. Our school is located in the flatlands of a large city in California. More than 95% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch prices. More than 82% are English Language Learners. 100% of them are amazing, delightful, hungry for learning, and deserving of everything that we can creatively muster to provide for them. And creative we will have to be. The latest budget cuts have left us with a skeletal crew of teachers, and money for only the most basic supplies.

My Project

Simply put, these resources will help us get our classroom organized. Best-Buy Boxes will be perfect for the students to keep track of math manipulatives and the books they are reading. The Spacemaker Units will be a great place to keep our multitude of math supplies, which are so necessary for learning, and yet take up so much space when they are stacked in withering boxes and milk crates. They will also provide much-needed organization for our writing and arts materials. With the Mobile Book Organizers, books will be more visible and and appealing! Books can also be labeled to match corresponding sections of the book organizer. Students will have no trouble knowing to where they should return a borrowed or lost book, or where to find that book again when they want to recommend it to a friend!

These resources can help make our physical classroom environment much more organized, accessible, and conducive to learning.

They will help students take more ownership of their space. Less time will be spent digging through boxes and crates, asking where to find materials, and tidying up areas. More time will be left for learning experiences! Thank you for your support.
