Help me give my students binders, bins, pencil pouches, pencils, and erasers so we can learn about organizing our own materials. This will help immensely when we come back to school for the FIRST TIME since 3/2020!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students, who live in North Minneapolis, are caring, brilliant, and hilarious. They take care of each other, love to make up their own jokes, and tell stories. Fifth grade is such a cool age where students have a growing awareness about the world around them and start to ask the big questions.
Despite the rough circumstances that life has handed to many of them, my students are strong and resilient.
When the work gets hard, some get discouraged, but others are there to boost them up and they all push through together. At our school everyone (staff, admin, students) is 'family,' and it rings true in the community in my classroom too. They are 'my kids' and we support each other like members of a family.
I look up to my fifth graders and learn from them every day.
They are intelligent readers, leaders, scientists, and mathematicians. I hope to help them discover their identities as life-long learners and change-makers. The future is so bright!
My Project
My fifth graders are coming back to school for in person learning for the FIRST TIME since March 2020. This is going to be a difficult, yet exciting, adjustment for all of us. I am hoping to help each student get organized by gathering and preparing a set of materials for each student. I am doing this for two reasons: for decreasing the chances of cross contamination, and to focus on organizational skills before they head off to middle school in the fall!
The last year has been incredibly difficult in so many ways.
One new source of anxiety for my students is that middle school is coming! I hope to ease a bit of this tension, by providing materials (and coaching on how to use them) so that they can be a little more prepared and equipped for heading to middle school!
