Let's Get Organized for 2024-25!

My Project

It is difficult to believe that we are nearing the end of the 2023-24 school year, and have to start planning for 2024-25. As my current 8th graders move up to high school, I am already looking forward to meeting my new 7th grade orchestra students in September 2024. (I have had the opportunity to meet with some of them as 6th graders throughout the winter, and I can tell already that this is going to be an amazing group to work with.) With this excitement comes a lot of review of my current organizational practices, deciding how to make classroom routines easier for both me and my future students.

With the amount of bonding and growing as a string orchestra my new students will do this fall, organization is key.

Middle school musicians find it easy to maintain their concert music and exercises in binders. As I review what my practices have been for my current cohort of students, it's clear that many of them struggled to obtain and organize a binder of concert music, warm ups, and scale/finger pattern exercises. When my new cohort walks into Orchestra 7 class for the first time in September 2024, I want to be able to hand each of them a binder that is theirs to keep in the orchestra classroom, already organized with dividers, containing the materials they will need to progress and excel at their instruments.

Additionally, I will be teaching a small section of Beginning Orchestra 7, for students who didn't have the opportunity to start an instrument in elementary school for myriad reasons. I would like to do something similar for these future musicians, organizing binders with materials that they will need to excel in their first year of playing.
