This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere" - my students this year are the most determined and persistent group of individuals I have had the pleasure to know. Their hard work and dedication in the classroom is paying off but we need your help!
My students are freshmen at a non-selective charter school.
They travel from all over the city and represent a diverse range of neighborhoods within the city. They walk in the door with a wide range of mathematical abilities and often begin high school behind their more affluent peers. Despite this, they are energetic, determined, hard working individuals who are persistent in their pursuit of our classroom goal of gaining 3 points on the ACT this year. They face every challenge I give them head on and have built a classroom where giving up is not an option. Through their frustration has come amazing growth and maturity. They have taken responsibility for themselves and each other and inspire me every day.
My Project
By having this document camera my students will be able to clearly see the structure of excellent note taking and problem solving in Mathematics. Every second of instructional time in the classroom is precious and this technology will save time writing on whiteboards. It will also allow students to share their work with the class, and work together to solve complex problems and ask meaningful questions about multiple representations of the same problem. Because the camera will allow me to show typed and handwritten work it will be the perfect way to model note taking, explain homework and test corrections, and dissect challenging multiple choice ACT problems.
It is a struggle to supplement missing skills and prerequisite knowledge from earlier grades and still make progress with new material.
My students and I value every moment of instruction because we are invested in our goal of making big gains on the ACT. This camera will allow us to save time and will give my students a chance to be leaders in the classroom by giving them an efficient way to share their work with their classmates.
