This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are amazing. They are hard working inquisitive young people. They arrive at school each day eager to learn. They miss very few school days. This isn't easy in their neighborhood. Many of my students come from single parent and foster parent households.

My school has about 550 students, grades K-5,including four special education classes.

Our school is 100% Title I. This means that 100% of our students come from low income families and all are living below the poverty line.

My Project

Kids today live a sedentary lifestyle. They sit all day and play on devices. Playstation, Xbox, and iPad have taken the place of basketball, bike riding and swimming. Parents want the best for their kids, but because they can't supervise, having to work instead, our kids find themselves playing in a sitting down. As a result, our kids are getting FAT. I have a seven year old student who weighs 192 pounds! I am asking for a class set of fitness tracker watches to increase their awareness of physical activity.

If my children had fitness trackers, I could challenge them to meet goals.

Kids would exercise and track their progress toward goals. We could help to stem the tide of sedentary living and poor health.
