Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the cartoon "Recess"? The keeper of the playground balls had all the classroom power. Though funny, my class loves being the "playground monitor". We have one basketball which they share pretty well for 3rd graders, but it sure would be nice to have more.

My students are eager learners.

They work hard to learn their lessons and complete their work. We are an inner city school in a high poverty area. It's a nice facility, though, and our parents and students help us keep it up. Many of my students have made great gains this year and I'd like to show them that others have heard about them and would like to reward them.

My Project

I strongly believe that physical activity makes it easier to learn. My school has tried out the idea of recess before lunch and we all love it. The kids are eating better and are more alert in the afternoons. By having balls to share and jump ropes to use, my class could get even more fun and exercise on the playground!

Students who have had periods of physical activity prepare the brain to be receptive to new learning.

Playground play can be relaxing and invigorating. I know if they had more than one ball those benefits would be even greater. My class shares pretty well, but there are almost 200 kids on the playground at once. More equipment would be so nice!
