My Students

I teach at a diverse Title I school in Farmington. While my students are new to me because this is my first year at this school, they have shown great enthusiasm for art class! I know that my new students deserve to receive the best art education experience that I can provide as an art educator. My students will get to have art class for the entire academic year, which is so exciting!

It is my hope that if I teach my students for one to six years during their elementary years that they will remember that art can make a difference in this world and change the narrative.

I teach my students that they have a responsibility to protect our world. To best do that, they can and should go to college and leave this area in the process because then they can go and experience the world and then bring this knowledge back and positively impact their community. I am a model for my students because I am from the Four Corners and left for university/grad school but intentionally moved back here to teach and practice as an artist/activist.

My Project

As my students are having art for the full academic year, instead of only one semester, we are running low on a few things like Ticonderoga pencils, Paper Mate Pink Pearl erasers, art paper, Crayola colored pencils, and Clorox wipes. These are basic art room supplies and they have to be replaced because art supplies are consumables. I am specifically requesting compostable Clorox wipes because I teach environmental stewardship through art-making. I save the Clorox plastic containers for my fourth grade recyclables project. I am needing additional gold and cobalt Prismacolor colored pencils for the face portion of the Ancient Egypt sarcophagi project that my second graders have been working on for nearly three months. I am requesting two more art stools because my largest class has increased in size and I do not have enough art stools for this class. My classroom set of 20 art stools was fully funded in December! I am requesting a classroom set of leaf stencils for a printmaking project with my first grade students. Each pack contains six stencil pages, so each student will have their own to use.

The most expensive item that I am requesting is the classroom set of aprons, so my students can keep paint from getting on their clothes.

My classroom only had plastic aprons for kindergarten students, which obviously do not fit my third through fifth grade students.
