Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are the future leaders of America. No doubt about it. I see it every day in my classroom in the way they converse with one another, challenge ideas, and crave knowledge and understanding.
They are ripe for the learning and have enjoyed the opportunity to go back to the basics in books this year. Students who said they are not readers have found themselves in books or have found escapes. They are inquisitive explorers ready to face tomorrow.
My Project
Every day I get to watch and join my students in disappearing from the world for a few minutes to dive into the worlds of our independent reading books. Students are finding for the first time (or again for a few) a love for reading, but I can't keep all the books they want and love on the shelves. For some students, they are craving graphic novels and Manga, while other students are needing to be pushed by the great philosophers. Still, I have others who just need to find the right book at the right time.
Help expand our classroom library, so we can have a diverse collection of books that functions as mirrors, windows, and doors into a world far bigger than ourselves.
