My Students
This will be my first year in the classroom and while I have only met a handful of my students so far, the ones that I have met have all been incredibly smart, kind, and excited about music and improving their musicianship.
My school is not located in an affluent community.
We provide almost everything the students need in order for them to participate in our instrumental music programs. We serve a largely Hispanic population where about 15% of the students are English Language Learners. Music has always brought people together and it continues to bring together the students of this school.
My Project
I have the good fortune to teach an adaptive instrumental music class for students with disabilities. This offering of this class is new to the school (just like me) and therefore doesn't yet have the equipment necessary to sponsor prolonged progress in the classroom.
Every student should have the opportunity to participate in instrumental music.
I teach students with varying physical and mental capacities. They love getting to play the instruments in my classroom but with such a large class size the students are only able to participate in small groups. With these new instruments we will be able to get more students participating at once and to expand their ensemble skills and joy in playing music. Every donation goes towards providing a more fulfilling musical experience and is greatly appreciated by myself and the students!
