My Project

We are a classroom with some special needs students. Some of these students are far below grade level and are eager to reach their full potential. My students may not be able to learn in a traditional manner and need assistance and modifications to help them succeed. Our school is in a high-poverty area, and every student receives free breakfast and lunch, so giving students every possible advancement is important.

Hands-on activities are great for my nontraditional learners!

My students love to learn, but they need to take different routes to get there. In our math class, they need a lot of repeated practice. Hands-on activities, such as sensory boards and reusable materials, help make learning meaningful. I would love to create more reusable hands-on materials and project-based learning activities for my students that can be used for many years!

My goal with these materials is to create a felt activity wall in the classroom where students can sort the felt pieces by number, color, and shape. They can also use them to practice graphing! I currently have the felt wall, but need the items to create the activities.

I would also like to make task boxes. The pom poms would be used for sorting activities (color and size), as well as the counters with the ten frame cards. The popsicle sticks will be used to sort by color and also be used to show the number of items.
