What would the world be like if we were all the same? How do children learn to work with people who are different from themselves?
My students are fun loving, energetic, curious four year old children.
I have 7 girls and 9 boys in my class. My students are interested in the world around them, and would love to see pictures of people from different places. Many of my students will never leave our town, so learning about the larger world around them is very important. They also need to learn how to work with others who are different from them socially.
My rural school is in a high poverty area where my students are educationally at risk. My students may not have the opportunities that children from more affluent areas would get to have.
My Project
My students are very interested in the world around them. Most of them would love to see new places but most will never leave our town. The posters and toys will help them learn about different people and places. My students are also young and also need resources to help them work with others. The books and CD will give them a fun way to learn about social skills. The books will also develop their literacy skills.
My students will learn how to deal with social problems through fun literature.
The posters and toys will help them learn about people from different cultures and different abilities. The materials will help my students to be more culturally and socially aware. Learning how to work with others will help my students to be more empathetic, caring people, who really want to help others. They will become more tolerant of individual differences as well.
