Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a 2nd grade teacher in Forsyth County, NC. I really enjoy the diverse population of students I work with. One thing that is a common thread in my classroom is the enjoyment of arts and crafts projects. No matter how the students perform on classwork, tests, assessments, etc, they all seem to enjoy making things related to what we're working on. We are often able to give these crafts to local nursing homes and assisted living centers to spread cheer among the residents. Some of them often have no one to visit and/or no highlights of their long days. Many of the students enjoy doing something worthwhile and meaningful to help others. I feel the residents would benefit as well as my students. I would like to ask for arts and crafts supplies to be enable my students to feel successful at making someone else's day. We are asking for a variety of materials to help us showcase our artistic talents and spread cheer. I believe if students can feel good about themselves in one area, it leads to a willingness to strive to perform in other areas.
