Help me give my students additional alternative seating for my classroom. These seats will allow my students to choose the seating options that work best for their learning.
I teach a group of very active, funny, dramatic and creative fifth graders. I have 51 students go through my classroom every as I teach math.
My students are the most creative, energetic and fun group of people to be around.
All of my students are at a variety of learning levels and learning styles. I am in the process of making my classroom an alternate seating classroom so my students can choose their seating preference. I believe that students learn best when they are comfortable and enjoy the space around them.
My Project
Flexible seating allows my students to take ownership in their learning by picking options that work best for them. Alternate seating not only allows them to choose their seating but it also allows them to choose where they want to sit in the classroom. The majority of my students choose to sit on the floor with floor desks or with clipboards. Due to not having enough seating for them all to choose this, many students are still not able to choose what works best for them. My students are more engaged and more focused when they are allowed to sit in an area that is most comfortable for them.
In the process of converting more of my desks into flexible seating I have noticed that my students are more engaged and just happier in general.
These materials will give my students the ability to sit on the floor if they choose to, to bounce in a seat if they need to and to make choices that are best for them. These choices allow my students to be more relaxed and comfortable. This is very important to me because as well all know our kiddos spend more time in the classroom then they do at home. This allows them to relax and enjoy learning more.
