My students need meter sticks and metric rulers for measurement in Science class.

My Students

South Middle School is in a low poverty area. We have over 90% free and reduced lunches. My students can not always afford items to do science projects. Some of my students have to share their items, and I would like to allow all of my students to have their own project.

I teach 2 classes of advanced/gifted science with 35 students and they are very inquisitive and need the hands on activities.

My other 4 science classes are regular science class with 80 students.

My Project

My sixth grade students need to learn how to measure. They have had no practical experience in elementary school or life, and Science is all about measuring. With the new meter sticks and rulers, students will be able to measure different items correctly with being able to see the numbers and no worry of splinters. My meter sticks and rulers are rather old and need to be replaced. The numbers are fading. This is such an important function in developing the love of science and to further scientific knowledge. My students need this experience not just for Science but for other areas of life.
