My students are eager to learn and impress everyday they arrive to school.
I teach in a large urban district in Massachusetts where school funding has been attacked.
My students are racially and economically diverse and I am working hard within the classroom to level the playing field. More than 3/4 of the students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program and our district provides breakfast in the classroom to help start our student off each day on the right foot.
Teaching students about lab equipment without giving them the opportunity to use the tool is shameful. My students need the chance to find the mass of objects by moving the slides and determing the mass using triple beam balances.
Building the practical skills in measurement is critical for my students.
Having the understanding of mass and what different masses look like transfers to science at all levels. Having the chance to start this investigation in 6th grade would build more confident and interested learners.
Help me give my students the chance to see what mass looks like and how it is measured right within my classroom.
