My Students

My students need to express themselves creatively through music and dance!

My students are a bright and lively group of first graders at an International Baccalaureate public magnet school.

We integrate the arts into our curriculum in an effort to provide a balanced education that fosters development of the whole child. Teaching the arts builds confidence and creativity and gives everyone a chance to participate. Young children also have much to learn about their bodies in space. I have a diverse group of learners in my classroom with a range of abilities and backgrounds, but they will all benefit from learning dance and movement. For many of my students, the lessons in class will be their only experience with dance and music.

My Project

I have worked with a teaching artist in years past and have a set of planned dance and movement lessons to teach my students, but am lacking the materials to bring these lessons to life. I am requesting Raffi cds, which will be used for dance but also during circle time, and movement materials like streamers, wrist bells and a snare drum so that we have the materials we need to explore rhythm and movement in the classroom. These items will help me teach my students coordination, flexibility, cooperation, discipline, and balance in an enjoyable and creative way!
