Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I don't have a pencil!" My students come to me with limited supplies, especially for writing. It's very hard for them to keep their stories organized. They will organize their writing as a book. By the end of 3rd grade, they will have a collection of stories in their notebook.
My students are all English language learners.
Most of them come from low income homes and all qualify for free lunch. When they start 3rd grade in the fall, they are all very skeptical about writing. However, by the end of 3rd grade, they love to write! Writing is a wonderful way to learn English. They learn so much as they go through the writing process.
My Project
With your help, each student will be able to create a "Source Book." Within this book they will have a collection of first drafts organized with a table of contents. They will be able to publish one piece per week. They will learn: narrative writing; explanatory writing; persuasive writing; expository writing. They will learn so much about the English language.
Writing is an essential skill that students need to learn.
3rd grade is the year to capture their interest in writing. With your help, my students will have pencils, and enough paper to keep them writing for the whole school year!
