Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our middle school in Fresno, California, we currently have a little over 800 7th and 8th-grade students and are expecting close to 900 students in the 2020-2021 school year. Many of our students come from single-family homes and are only able to use the materials they buy at the start of the school year. Our students oftentimes struggle outside of school, but school ends up becoming their place of stability, and place for both academic and emotional achievement.

Our student population is made up of students who come from diverse backgrounds, many of them who transfer in from all areas of Fresno, California.

85% of our student population qualifies for free and reduced-price meal prices. Socially economically speaking, our students are at, or below the poverty level. We are a Title I school that has recently been admitted into the "Comprehensive Site Improvement" program.

My Project

The camera and camera accessories that I am requesting will help my Leadership students be able to take photographs for our school yearbook! Students will be able to capture on campus memories, including sporting events, music performances, in class activities, academic awards, theater performances, and club activities. The photographs will be used within our 2019-2020 Yearbook, as well as future yearbooks. The requested equipment will also be used to record performances and take photographs of events that will be posted on our school website. Many of our parents/guardians are unable to attend on campus events due to needing to work, or take care of younger siblings. Being able to document on campus events will create a stronger connection between our student's family members, and our school as a whole!

My students and I are currently using our cell phones to take photographs and video with.

Often times while uploading the images and videos, the images are incredibly blurry, and not able to be used on our school website or for our school yearbook. We would love the chance to be able to provide something to students and their families that they can look back at and remember our middle school in a fond manner!
