Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Last school year, 2018-2019, our staff identified 3,335 homeless students. This is 37% of our district! All of our students automatically qualify for free or reduced-price lunch due to the economic status of our community. Many of our parents are employed as field workers, where paychecks can be small or sporadic, especially in winter when there is not as much work. More than half of my class speaks English as their second language, and some have special needs. With that being said, they all love to come to school and want to learn. They deserve all the resources we can give to help them to be successful in school.
My Project
All of our students are already incredible and deserve the opportunity to excel in every area possible. We are seeking donations to further our cooking program with my students. We need a heavy-duty mixer that is going to stand the test of time. Cooking not only provides a foundation for life skills, but also helps with other areas such as metrics, reading, and working as a team. Allowing children to cook their own meals not only provides them with an understanding of where their food comes from but also how it is prepared.
Establishing healthy eating is pivotal to creating healthy futures and children who understand and enjoy making healthy decisions.
We want incredible chefs, food critics, and entrepreneurs, to inspire kids to be whatever they want to be. Showing children something outside of the basic realm of jobs and activities to broaden their skills and enhance their exposure. Help us become even more incredible learning how to prepare simple meals that we can make and eat on our own!
