This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are underway creating a sensory room on our campus! A sensory room will allow my students a space to regulate their bodies and minds.

My campus environment needs to match how my students function.

My special education students need to regulate their bodies and minds through movement, different seating, and calming sights, sounds, and smells in order to focus throughout the day. My students are limited on how they can regulate their bodies and minds. When my students are regulated, they are more engaged in their work and less disruptive to their peers. In classrooms, my students are walking around and messing with peers when dysregulated, but this sensory room will give my students a space they need while also creating an environment for all students on campus to use.

I’ve seen how a sensory room can benefit students and their functioning at school. This sensory room will help my students and all other students across campus be fully engaged in their classes so they can produce the best work possible!
