My Students

I teach at a wonderful, rural middle school located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. My sixth grade math class is a place of collaboration, discovery, and challenge. I teach 80, highly energetic and inquisitive students, who are eager and enthusiastic to learn. Some of my students need reinforcement with various mathematical skills they previously learned, while others need advanced material to challenge them. It is my goal to provide that instructional reinforcement and challenge so each and every one of my students can be successful.

My students learn by experimenting, trial and error, their own discoveries, and from one another.

The students in my class work together to challenge one another and grow mathematically. I love how my students want to learn and grow every single day.

My Project

All of my students want to be successful. Sometimes that takes on a different meaning for each individual student. Some students need reinforcement on a concept and some need to be challenged, while others just need a place to collaborate with one another. However, we have no place in the room to meet as a small group to challenge, learn, or reinforce content.

My students and I would love a markerboard table.

Not only is this table a place to meet, but it also offers a writing surface. This would allow my students to have some type of choice in how they complete their assignment. Often times simple little choices like pencil or marker can make a huge difference in engagement and learning.

The markerboard table would also allow myself to work with specific students while others continue their assignment at their desks. I could potentially meet with every group every day. The possibilities are endless with a place to meet and work with targeted small groups of students.
