Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a demographic area that is rural and comprised of a low socioeconomic status. They attend a school where 89% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. However, despite their hardships, they have the drive to succeed in their education. In addition, despite their economic background, these students strive to become productive, articulate, and responsible citizens.
My students are developing as intrinsically motivated and independent learners.
They come from a school where the staff is dedicated to working collaboratively as a professional learning community to ensure that all students receive an education that reflects data-driven decisions, current curriculum, and research-based practices.
My Project
Every year in March we do a week-long author study on Dr. Seuss around his birthday so students can understand and learn about him as an author. During this week we read a variety of Dr. Seuss stories combined with enriching reading and math activities that help students understand the subject. My current set of Dr. Seuss books are tattered. We need new Dr. Seuss books, pencils, erasers, hats, pens and other materials for these activities.
Some of my students don’t have any Dr. Seuss books at home or are not exposed to his style of writing.
I want to make sure students learn about becoming a writer and deepen their love of reading.
With your donation, I will be able to share some exceptional publications with my students, as well as engage them in important conversations about respect, good choices, and honesty. The playful nature and entertainment of his books are inspiring and a pleasure to read. I would love to give my students literature to celebrate an author to inspire a lifelong love of reading!
