Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am blessed to be the teacher of 25 amazing kindergartners. These students come from all different backgrounds, with different skills and strengths. Their favorite parts of the day are singing our sight word songs, listening to read-alouds, and doing CGI math problems.
Yet for them, our classroom isn't just a place where they learn how to read, write, and count.
It is also a place where they can be themselves, grow independent, overcome challenges, have fun, and learn to work together. Their enthusiasm when it comes to learning motivates me to provide them with the best instruction possible.
My Project
Studies show that learning is improved when instruction is engaging, hands-on, and interactive. In order to increase understanding of kindergarten math concepts, I like to provide my students with multiple resources that connect to various learning styles. Making math a tangible experience instead of simply visual, will help with conceptual understanding which is so important at these early stages of learning.
These Numbers & Counting Theme books, Number Train Floor puzzles, Addition Learning locks, and manipulatives will help my students who are having difficulty with math concepts such as counting, number sense, addition, money, writing numbers, and shapes.
They will be used whole-class and also during my small groups. My students will have so much fun with these materials, that they wont even realize they are learning!
