My Students

I teach a community-based class of 22 students with significant disabilities. We spend half of the day on academics and the other half on life/job skills. Students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades are allowed to go off campus to work at different job sites in our community. Ninth grade students remain on campus and work on job skills at school.

My students have abilities!

Every student is capable of contributing to our school and our community in their own individual ways. When they are at school, they work hard on their academics and their life/job skills training. When they are out working in the community, they make their teachers, their school, and their community proud. They create relationships that lead to future employment.

Through job skills training we learn so much about our students. We find talents that they never knew they had. They become interested in future jobs.

My Project

Like many educators, I believe technology is a tool for empowerment. It creates a collaborative and innovative space for all students. It also gives students who struggle with pen and paper or communication, another way to express themselves.

By donating a color printer and ink cartridges to our class, my students will be able to proudly display their work on class projects, send student made greeting cards each month to family and friends, print out student made power points and much more.

I have seen how motivated my students are when given assignments to do on the computer, ipad, or smart board. The color printer would be an excellent addition to the technology we already use.
