This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in the largest and most racially and linguistically diverse elementary schools in Oakland. We are a close knit school community. We are a high poverty area and most students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. My students come from families speaking over twenty-six different languages. Many of them do not have English language support at home.
In my class, there are a variety of learning styles and academic levels that need to be addressed.
My students come to school each day eager to love to explore and learn new things. They put their best foot forward everyday.
My Project
Clean air is very important in the classroom and one simple way to clean that air is with a HEPA purifier. Without proper air circulation, air can be stagnant and host a variety of contagions. The air purifier will help prevent the spread of many common colds and illnesses. It can also be incredibly helpful for students who suffer from chronic respiratory conditions like asthma and allergies.
An air filter in the classroom can quietly filter the air in the room, pulling out bacteria, germs, pollen, dust and all other forms of airborne particulates that can compromise the health of my students.
In short, the HEPA air purifier will improve the air quality in my classroom and reduce students absences due to illnesses.
