My Project

The average American reads 12 books this year, but almost half of Americans say they haven't read one book in the past year. One way to encourage reading is to have books that people want to read. Reading for fun has declined every year since 2003, with only 14% of middle school students reporting they read for fun.

I teach at a diverse Title I school.

There are many minority students including African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian students. I have been working the past four years to diversify the books available in our library so everyone can see themselves represented in literature. This is a diverse list of books to encourage students to read for fun.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
